Getting started
What you need before installing PeoplePress, and the order to do things in.
This area is still changing. Steps and screenshots may lag behind the current release.
Setting up a PeoplePress community is three jobs, in this order: confirm the server meets the requirements, install and activate the plugin, then decide which modules your community actually needs.
Doing it in that order matters. Some requirements — the database version in particular — cannot be changed after members have signed up without downtime.
Steps
- Check the requirements. Server and WordPress versions, and the database features PeoplePress depends on.
- Install and activate. Activation creates the custom tables that the modules read from. TODO(verify): whether activation is safe to run on a site with an existing incompatible schema.
- Choose your modules. Every module is optional apart from the ones the others depend on. A community without groups simply leaves the group module off. TODO(verify): the exact admin screen and option key used to enable or disable a module.
What comes next
Once the platform runs, the user guide covers running it, and addons add capability beyond the twelve core modules.
